Selfie Station
Our Selfie Station allows citizens to take their photographs ahead of their ID application appointment.
Enhanced citizen services
The Selfie Station can take a biometric photograph of a person and seamlessly transmit it for integration into their ID application. The photograph’s quality is automatically checked so citizens can enjoy reduced wait times.
-
The photograph is automatically cropped[A1] , quality-checked, transmitted seamlessly into the administrative procedure and integrated into the citizen’s application – so the member of staff working on their application simply has to make sure that it meets all relevant requirements. If several photographs are taken, the staff member can choose the best one.
-
Our products’ most noteworthy characteristics include their intuitive operation and straightforward integration into existing administrative procedures. This is made possible by our software interface, which is implemented as a REST API and facilitates seamless links with different procedures. We can install a Selfie Station in your local authority network in a single morning – including DMZ and proxy and taking your network structure into account.
You can find an up-to-date overview of compatible administrative procedures here.
-
The Selfie Station is certified in accordance with BSI TR-03121 (notification of certification BSI-K-TR-0429-2020).
Our solutions will be recertified on the basis of new standards by May 2025. We will implement any necessary changes at no cost to you.
Easy and accessible
Our Selfie Station allows citizens to take their photographs ahead of their ID application appointment. Clear graphics and simple language guide users through the process.
-
Our Selfie Station can be adjusted to a height of 80–210 cm, measured to the centre of the camera lens. When a user stands in front of the Selfie Station, the machine automatically adjusts its height by localising the user’s face and determining the appropriate height for the photograph. This automatic height adjustment also ensures that the touchscreen is at the optimal height for the user. This makes it an ideal solution for wheelchair users.
-
Biometric photographs are subject to numerous requirements. The Selfie Station crops photographs as required and transmits datasets in the prescribed format. If the user’s eyes were closed in the photograph, or if they opened their mouth, the Selfie Station displays corresponding instructions so that they can try again. All photographs are reviewed in accordance with the ICAO standard and displayed in the application window so that the staff member can select the best image.
-
You can tap the full potential of our Selfie Station by combining it with the Biometric Solutions Desktop Station. After a biometric photograph has been taken, the Table Terminal can be used to record fingerprints and a signature. This is an exceptionally efficient solution and a valuable tool for desk-based staff.

The Selfie Station can be used by anyone over three years old. The lens can be lowered to a minimum height of 80 cm so young children (from around three years old) and people with physical disabilities (such as wheelchair users) can also use the Selfie Station with ease. The maximum lens height is 2.10 m.
The Selfie Station is an accessible solution: it is suitable for wheelchair users (as they can position themselves) and also offers multilingual menu prompts, simple language, large and clear touchscreen buttons and automatic height adjustment. The rear wall is flexible and can be moved if needed.
However, if you prefer your case workers to take the photographs or would like to be able to take photographs of babies and young children, we recommend opting for Biometric Go.
-
The Selfie Station itself is around 46 cm wide, 2.15 m tall, 60.2 cm deep and weighs roughly 70 kg.
However, the lens has a focal length of 70–80 cm and, when combined with the rear wall (background) and allowing for a suitable distance between the Selfie Station and the subject, the entire footprint of the Selfie Station is around 90 cm wide and 2.27 m tall with an extended depth of 1.11 m and a total weight of roughly 100 kg (including the rear wall).
This means it can easily be installed just about anywhere in a building. You just need to make sure that there are no downlights or other light sources shining down on the Selfie Station from above. However, you can always switch lights off or cover them.
